Who We Are

We are the Hart family, and we established Harts Community Adventure, a nonprofit organization, during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019. Our mission is to serve our community and church by bringing people together, encouraging everyone—young and old—to engage with the community spaces around us. In short, we aim to inspire individuals to reconnect and spend more time outdoors, where they can focus on their mental health and well-being while meeting new friends and learning new skills.

Additionally, we are committed to supporting families during school holidays by providing free meals and  activities for both children on free school meals and their parents. Our approach is rooted in love, Christian values, and a non-judgmental spirit.

our passion is to make all of our events available for all and we aim to provide all of our services free for our families in the community, therefore we heavily really on funding and donations. if you are an organisation or business that are able to support us financially or practically please do get in touch using the contact form.

Upcoming Events

Activities

Come Along, Get involved!

We offer a variety of events in the communities, some of which require booking, like the HAF programs, while others allow for drop or reservations. There's something for the whole family to enjoy!

Summer  Harts @ HAF

Summer Harts @ HAF is supported by Bring It On Brum.

We collaborate with various partners throughout the summer holidays to offer families in Birmingham, who receive free school meals. We give them a safe and non-judgemental environment where they can enjoy nutritious meals and participate in engaging activities, keeping them active during the school break.

What is HAF and who are Bring it on Brum ?

HAF stands for:    Healthy Activity and Food provision

Bring it on Brum! is a programme funded by the Department for Education designed for families in Birmingham to help children, young people and their parents have fulfilling, active, fun-filled and healthy school holidays. Part of the new Holiday Activities and Food programmes, Bring it on Brum! is the biggest scheme of its kind in the country, and we’re really excited to bring it to you and your family!

Forest Church

Those engaged in Forest Church are seeking to meet with God, through their connection with the natural world. The hope is that Forest Churches will become a spiritual home for those outside the traditional church, who relate better to outdoor spirituality than gatherings in a church building.

Many people around us find that their most profoundly spiritual moments are when they are outdoors, in nature.

Forest Church is a contemporary movement, with roots in the long Christian tradition of engagement in nature, such as the Celtic and Franciscan approaches.

Forest School

Our family forest school sessions are laid-back and enjoyable. We meet at the Walker Health Park car park (Kings Norton side) during term time on a Friday from 4 PM to 5:30 PM. Families arrive directly from school, bringing a snack while I provide some yummy hot chocolate. Together we: explore the park, engage in various crafts and games and have a great time. Everyone is welcome, so come and join us!

There are many benefits of attending a community forest school session:

  •  You learn more about your local area

  •  Make new friends

  •  Improves Confidence

  •  Improves Resilience

  •  Improves Physical Wellbeing

  •  Improves Empathy

  •  Give an Insight into the Natural World

  •  The sessions are Learner-led

  •  Improves Physical Wellbeing & Motor Development

Tree Planting

In March 2023, we collaborated with Fruit and Nut Village to create a mini orchard in Walker Heath Park, offering the community access to free fruit as it grows. We planted three apple trees, two cherry trees and one peach.

During the planting process, we learned about the origins of our fruit, the life cycle of fruit and how to nurture a sapling as it transforms into a fruit-bearing tree.

Looked after children (LAC) sessions

We aspire to offer forest school sessions in the future specifically designed for looked after children. As someone who grew up in the care system from the age of 10, I understand the challenges of forming friendships and the stigma associated with being a looked after child. My vision is to create a safe and non-judgmental environment where looked after children and their carers can connect and share experiences with peers who can relate to their journey.

Meet Shiloh

Shiloh is our beloved family dog, a lovely Cavapoo known for being hypoallergenic. She adores everyone and may jump up to give you a kiss!
We hope that with time, she will calm down and we plan to train her as therapy dog. Shiloh was born in October 2023.
Shiloh often accompanies us to Forest School, but if you are unsure about dogs, just let me know and I'll keep her on a leash.

Well-Being walks

We meet at the Walker Health Park car park (Kings Norton side) during term time on a Friday from 10am -11.30am. We have a leisurely walk around the park and talk about what ever we would like to talk about and then we finish with a nice warm drink of tea or coffee out of a flask. Everyone is welcome, so come join us!

Den Building

Ever wanted to find out what it would be like to live and sleep outside?

Den building is a firm favourite activity not only for the young people, but for the adults as well. It enhances the creativity and imagination of everyone involved.

But always remember, whatever you put up you must put down (including those run away tent pegs)

Art With Sharon

Art with Sharon is  for us to gather and create together. We explore making sculptures from clay, drawing flowers, and painting with acrylics and water colours. Additionally, we experiment with sketching and using charcoal.

Ideal for all ages - keep a look out on our events for our next Art with Sharon workshops.

We host numerous workshops and projects with Harts Community Adventure year-round, so be sure to check our events page and follow us on Facebook to stay updated!

Thank You

At Harts Community Adventure, we want to give a huge thank you to our partners, funders and the communities we serve for helping us turn our dream into reality. Without your support, HCA wouldn't be where it is today, providing assistance to families in South Birmingham. We are truly blessed and privileged to serve in this capacity that we are able to today. Thank you and may God bless you each and every day.
